Seeback found that if a temperature gradient is placed across two junctions of two dissimilar conductors, an electrical current will flow through. Modern Peltier technology comes from the discoveries of 19th century scientists Thomas Seebeck and Jean Peltier. They also can be used to generate DC power, albeit with reduced efficiency. Peltier devices are thermoelectric modules that deliver solid state heat-pumping for both cooling and heating.
